One of the interesting things about SonyEricsson phones is that they have a functional (if somewhat minimalist) IMAP client with TLS/SSL support.
However, the phones are extremely picky about the server certificates they accept, and I thought it was high time to document how to get .Mac mail over SSL working on them. I used a K750i, but this should work on any modern SonyEricsson device that has an “Encryption” option in the mail account settings menu.
Of course you can always use .Mac IMAP mail without encryption, but hey, it’s your password – you figure out if you want it to be transmitted in clear text over the internet.
The following sections detail the basic technique, which should be applicable to just about any secure POP3 or IMAP service (such as Gmail) as well as any oddball WAP/HTTPS sites you may encounter.

Gmail on your ESeries

-The best option, of course is to get the Gmail app
But if you are looking for full attachment support and other mail features included in the ESeries Mail Client, then heres what you do:

1) Enable POP in your Gmail account Click on Options on your Gmail Inbox
2) Go to Messages -> Settings -> Email -> New Mailbox (name it Gmail)
-> Connection Settings 

: Incoming Email ->
- User name : your full Gmail username (including @gmail.com)
- Password : your gmail password
- Incoming Mail server : pop.gmail.com
- Access Point in use : Your APN
- MailBox Name : Gmail
- Mailbox Type : POP3
- Security (ports) SSL/TLS
- Port : Default
- APOP Secure Login : Off

Outgoing Email ->
- My Email address : username@gmail.com
- Username : same as above
- Password : Your Gmail password
- Outgoing mail sever : smtp.gmail.com
- Access Point in Use : Your APN
- Security (ports) : SSL/TLS
- Port : 587

Thats all you need to set! Your Gmail account should start working fine now!

Its simple. Just go to http://m.facebook.com on your phone browser. Its kind of nice. 

If your modem does not seem to have a compatible script under the /Library/ModemScripts folder, you can create your own, as per the instructions given on Apple Knowledge Base site:
This article describes what to do if a particular modem is not listed in the Modem control panel. 

Ideally, you should obtain a modem script from your modem vendor and place it in the Modem Scripts folder (System Folder:Extensions:Modem Scripts)(HDD/Library/Modem Scripts for Mac OSX). The scrollable list of modems in the Modem control panel corresponds to the scripts in this location.

If you are unable to obtain a script from you modem vendor, you can request a recommended initialization string to use with PPP connections. With that connection script in hand you can use the following workaround:
1. Select “Null Modem 57600″ in the Modem window of the PPP control (example: AT&F0) panel and close the window. 
2. Select “Options” at the bottom of the PPP control panel.
3. Select the Protocol tab.
4. Place an “X” beside “Connect to a command line host” and beside “Use terminal window” and close this window.
5. Click “Connect”. NOTE: At this point you have a terminal window and any text input from the keyboard will go directly to the modem after pressing the return key.
6. Enter the recommended initialization string from your modem vendor followed by the return key. The modem should respond with “OK” in the terminal window.
7. Enter the command string to dial your ISP’s PPP server (example: ATDT9,555-1212).
8. Respond to the ISP server’s prompts for username and password. If the login is successful, the terminal window will close and you will be prompted to save a connection script based upon the terminal window session.
9. To use this script for future PPP connections, select the “Options” button once again in the PPP control panel. This time in the Protocol section place an “X” beside “Connect to a command line host” and “Use a connect script”. 
10. Select the “Import Script” button.
11. Select the script saved in step 8 above and click “Open”.

Subsequent PPP connection attempts will now use this custom script.

Cortado Free Push Email


Cortado has a free push email service with a 20MB mailbox. I thought of giving it a shot. Registering is simple, and you get a username@cortado.com email ID. It supports my Nokia E61 (it supports phones with built in IMAP PUSH (IMAP IDLE) email client). My test mail worked like a charm. Within moments my Gmail test email arrived into my Nokia E61 with the flashing lED. It’s highly recommended!
