Reliance Broadband Connect+ USB Modem and Mac OSX Snow Leopard
I just got myself a Reliance Huawei EC1260 3G USB data modem.
The good thing is when you connect, it shows a disc image of a Mac installer. The bad thing is, the Mac installer is for a 32 bit OS, and Snow Leopard is 64 bit. Of course you can boot in 32 bit mode by pressing 3+2 when booting, but that isnt a good solution.
Fortunately Huawei has released a 64 bit driver which sadly the Reliance customer care don’t know about yet.
You can download the Huawei driver here. I downloaded the MobileConnectDriver (4.16.00.00).
Make sure you get your modem ‘activated’ by the folks at Reliance when you buy it. Activation can ONLY be done on a Wondows PC. Unless activated the modem wont work.
Double click to go through the standard installation procedure.
Once installed and with the modem connected, go to System Preferences -> Network
Location: Create New (You can call it Reliance Broadband)
On the left hand panel see three Huawei things come up. I selected the one called Huawei Modem
You can enter the settings as:
Configuration: Default
Telephone Number: #777
Account Name: Your 10 digit Reliance number
Password: Same as above
Now move to Advanced
Click Modem -> Vendor -> Other
automatically the Model will appear as Huawei Mobile Connect 3G Modem
Error Correction and Compression in Modem is ON
Dial Mode: Ignore dial tone when dialling
Dianlling: Tone
Sound: off
There. That should do it and you should be ready to go!

I got another simple way without downloading anything. On mounted reliance drive you see “Reliance Netconnect” app but that won’t run. You need to right click on it and choose show package contents. Inside Contents/Resources run Mobile_Connect_Drv_App.pkg.
Now you can see the drive installation and next to that it quite simple.

I would not recommend someone to purchase a broad band with a wide band width if they do not need to store a lot of information. It is worth saving the money by buying what one needs and not what one wants.

I have and they do not want to recoment any specific device as they all are ok …
acording to the homepage there are diferent options but it seams to difer from dealer to dealer, but actually I think that they are all more or less ok arcoding to specifikations.
I have decided to buy one when I come to a bigger town which I do soon.
Thangs and regards

Hi Rajendra, I did the same thing, it said that the installation was complete but the earlier problem came up again. When i went to applications in macintosh hd and tried to run it from there, it said that the device could not be found… any solutions?

Sorry for the delayed response. Which device do you have? Probably your device is not compatible…
